St Michael's pupils were delighted to welcome back visiting children's author Declan Carville to P6/7 on Thursday for an inspirational and entertaining Creative Literacy Workshop. Declan told us all about the interesting projects being developed at the AMMA Centre with authors and illustrators, writers and artists, animators and film-makers and how they can work together to bring out the best in each other. We also learned that many authors and illustrators put little clues about themselves into their books and Declan revealed that the character of Fergal in The Magic Harp was actually based on Declan himself. This prompted us to come up with ideas for a sequel to this story called Fergal's Second Wish, and under Declan's guidance we drew up storyboards for our own versions of a new and exciting adventure for Fergal. Perhaps there might be a future author or illustrator in our class, and one day we'll recount the story of how it all started when Declan Carville visited our school.
